Applying to Leiden University

After Submitting my initial application VIA studielink, Leiden University asks for a few additional components through their own online application system, uSis. This is where you submit your ID, transcript, and CV. The easiest part of this is ID, they ask for a copy of your passport to show prove your nationality which is part of determining your tuition (international students typically pay more than EU students).

In the uSis system, you will enter your Secondary (high school education). List your school, start and graduation dates, and diploma type, "US high school diploma". Unlike with the Common App, you will self report your transcript. This means you will have to obtain a copy of your official transcript from your school, and upload it to uSis yourself.

The last step is uploading your CV, or resume. The European expectation for a resume is slightly different than that of a US one, I followed the CV recommendations on LU's website. As I chose not to submit my SNHU transcript with my dual enrollment courses, I listed them on my CV. I included my contact information (use a personal email address not your school one), education (list your high school and dual enrollment if applicable), work experience, volunteer experience, and awards/recognitions, and club/organization participation.

Fortunately, there is no essay requirement for the LU application, which saved a significant amount of time. However, the application fee is steep, at €100, which is equivalent to $119.

Though you may still be unsure of where you plan to commit, housing at Leiden University runs out quickly. Even the schools website suggests that it is never too early to apply for housing, so along with your application or when you receive your acceptance it is best to submit your housing request.
