WHERE TO START
Here are some of the UK's top ranked schools for international students
OXFORD UNIVERSITY
Oxford, England
Along with the university of Cambridge, Oxford makes up part of the UK equivalent to the ivies, known as OxBridge. Oxford is actually ranked number 5 in the world by UsNews (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, and Berkley in positions 1-4). However, Oxfords tuition ($19,00-$30,000) and acceptance rates (17.5 %) are no match for its American counterparts. Having over 20,000 students, Oxford University is located in central England (just 1.5 hours by train from London).
UNIVERSITY OF ST. ANDREWS
St. Andrews, Scotland
St. Andrews draws in a large international population, making it one of the most international universities in the UK. The appeal of St. Andrews to American students comes from its flexibility in switching programs, something that most other schools dont allow. St. Andrews university is located on the northeast coast of Scotland, in the town of St. Andrews which has a population of almost 17,000. However, tuition prices are similar to that of American out of state costs.
You don't have to go "Ivy" league either...

Although ranking is a huge factor when choosing to go abroad (because you want to make sure future employers from all over the world will recognize your degree)…. you don't have to limit your options to Russel group (equivalent to Ivy league) universities. Go on UCAS and filter your search by subject/degree and if you find one that appeals, check out its standings on the league tables (which can be done in a quick google search) and make sure its in that top 10-20.
